Which shows should I buy tickets for?

The ticketed rooms: Tipitina's, the Fillmore, the Civic Theatre, the Orpheum, the Saenger, Preservation Hall. Touring acts and weekend nights sell out. Everything else is mostly walk-in.

Where should I spend a night?

Frenchmen Street if you want a dozen venues in three blocks. Uptown for the institutions. The Bywater, Treme, and Mid-City for neighborhood rooms where the locals go. The listings above cover all of them.

What about Sunday?

Sunday is a real music night here, not an afterthought. Evening brass band sets, long-running residencies, and the occasional second line make it many locals' favorite night of the week.
